FOOTBALL

The SWJCFC playoffs start Saturday with the 9th-ranked Cardinals at home against 18th-ranked Navarro at 3 p.m.

 

Blinn goes to NEO in the other semifinal.

 

The two winners will play at the site of the highest remaining seed on Saturday, Nov. 11.

 

The Cardinals (7-2) secured the No. 1 seed and homefield throughout the playoffs Saturday with a 31-21 win against Cisco. NEO knocked off Blinn, 35-26, to create a 3-way tie atop the standings at 5-2. The Cardinals prevailed on the conference’ point differential tiebreaker.

 

It will mark the 5th straight year the Cardinals have entered the playoffs as the top seed.

 

Saturday’s forecast is calling for a high of 82 and partly cloudy.

 

BASKETBALL 

 

The Cardinals are scheduled to open the season this week, taking on Temple at Cardinal Gym at 7 p.m. Thursday.

 

The Lady Cards are scheduled to open their season next week on Tuesday, Nov. 7, against Weatherford. Game time at Cardinal Gym is 5:30 p.m. The Cardinals will also play Weatherford, starting at 7:30 p.m.


VOLLEYBALL

 

The 13th-ranked Lady Cardinals closed the season Saturday with a 3-0 non-conference win on the road against Lee, winning 25-14, 25-15, 25-21.

 

With the win, the Lady Cardinals closed the year 24-4. They were 2-4 in conference.

 

Highlights of the Lady Cardinals’ season included:

 

  • Tosha Spain 150th career win at college

 

  • Had a pair of 8-game winning streaks

 

  • Swept  zone champion Tyler in conference play for first time

 

  • Matched highest-ever NJCAA ranking at No. 12

 

  • Won 17 matches by 3-0 scores, including first 8

 

  • Posted 4th season of 20 or more wins

 

  • Fewest losses ever by a sophomore class (12)

 

Went unbeaten in non-conference
