Time to go Virtual


It is time to go virtual.

This month, the Athens Chamber of Commerce is transitioning away from a traditional model to a virtual chamber model.

The coronavirus has changed the working environment for many small businesses and it has changed how the chamber operates, as well. The board has been meeting via Zoom for months and has decided it makes sense to extend some of these changes to the chamber’s day-to-day operations.

According to the Athens Chamber bylaws, the purpose of the chamber is to provide local businesses with a place to “discuss, promote and conduct business.” The best place to do that right now is online.

Even before the pandemic, virtual events were growing in popularity among Chambers of Commerce across the country. This move allows the Athens Chamber to be an important partner and advocate for city businesses as the economy continues to evolve.

Projections indicate that in-person events will decrease across the country even after COVID, but the Chamber is still committed to providing some in-person networking events when they are safe and allowable under the law.
